An Evening of Alpha Brilliance

For eighty years, the Gamma Mu Lambda (ΓΜΛ) Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has stood as a beacon of leadership, scholarship, service, and brotherhood in Tallahassee, Leon County, and across the State of Florida. Known affectionately as the “Capital City” Chapter, Gamma Mu Lambda has consistently worked to bring a brighter light and renewed hope to our region—rooted in Florida’s capital and guided by the timeless principles of Alpha Phi Alpha.
Chartered on March 4, 1946, as the 177th House of Alpha, Gamma Mu Lambda’s legacy is measured not simply by years, but by impact. Across generations, the chapter has produced men of vision and purpose—leaders in education, law, public service, civil rights, and community development—who exemplify the Fraternity’s highest ideals. The chapter’s history reflects a unique blend of tradition and progress, serving as both a lighthouse for those seeking direction and a foundation for those striving to rise higher.
As the chapter commemorates this historic 80-year milestone, An Evening of Alpha Brilliance is both a celebration and a recommitment. Under the leadership of Chapter President Brother Rodney Daniels, and guided by his theme for the year, “Getting Back to Alpha,” this anniversary moment calls us to reconnect with the core values that have defined Gamma Mu Lambda since its inception: excellence, scholarship, service, and uplift.
This elegant, invitation-only Commemorative & Scholarship Ball honors the visionary charter members, the distinguished brothers who have entered Omega Chapter, and the living legacy of Alpha Men who continue to advance humanity. It also pays tribute to Gamma Mu Lambda’s special place in Alpha history as the chapter where one of our revered Founding Jewels, Brother Charles Henry Chapman, rests—reminding us that our foundation is sacred and our charge is enduring.
Honoring Our Charter Members & Foundational Leaders
As we celebrate eighty years of service and distinction, we pause to honor the Charter Members and early leaders whose vision, courage, and commitment established Gamma Mu Lambda as a pillar of excellence within Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Their dedication laid the groundwork for generations of leadership, scholarship, and community uplift that continue to define the chapter today.
We proudly recognize the Charter Members and foundational brothers whose efforts were instrumental in building the 177th House of Alpha in Tallahassee, Florida:
Brothers Moses G. Miles, L.H.B. Foote, Robert “Pete” Griffin, T.J. Perry, Sr., E.E. Ware, Sr., Samuel Howell, William H. Gray, Jr., Wilmoth H. Baker, Sr., Clifton Jones, Richard Dunn, William Morris, Jr., and A.W. Wright,
along with Brother Dr. C.U. Smith, whose leadership and guidance were critical in the chapter’s early development.
Their legacy endures through every program launched, every life touched, and every Alpha man committed to service in the Capital City and beyond.
Importantly, this celebration looks forward as much as it looks back. Proceeds from the evening directly support the educational and leadership initiatives of the Alpha Educational & Leadership Foundation, Inc., ensuring that Gamma Mu Lambda remains steadfast in its commitment to developing young people, strengthening families, and empowering communities. Through academic enrichment, leadership development, civic engagement, and service, the chapter continues to answer the call to “Go-To-High School, Go-To-College” and to prepare future generations for lives of purpose and impact.
An Evening of Alpha Brilliance invites guests to join Gamma Mu Lambda in honoring eighty years of excellence while reaffirming our dedication to the ideals that make Alpha Phi Alpha the pride of our hearts. It is a night of elegance, reflection, and renewed purpose—Getting Back to Alpha, and lighting the way forward for generations to come.
